The Crown Chakra is the space of Spirit, where all things – joy and sorrow, love and hate, life and death – meet as one energy, with no agenda or bias. It is the place of truth, where the veils are removed, and we see things as they truly are.
The most prominent function of the Third Eye is as the intuitive center, the realm of our ‘sixth sense’. It is here inner knowledge, intuition, and psychic talents are developed and expressed. The Ajna is the literal spiritual eye, seeing beyond the veil of human reality and into the realm of the unknown, the mystery – that which cannot be explained by societal logic.
The main functions of the Throat Chakra are self expression and communication. Only by expressing ourselves are we able to tell the outer world about our inner workings, and declare what we need for our mental, physical, and spiritual survival. As the second chakra gives us insight to who we are and what we want, the fifth chakra allows us to express those things and bring them into existence.
The Heart Chakra is the space of Divine love, unconditional love. This is a feeling and a depth of emotion that is given and received without motive or expectations; the nonjudgmental energy we use to heal ourselves and others; the foundation of compassion and forgiveness. The Anahata holds the space of human kindness, gratitude, and forgiveness, and is the center of our love for others, our love for ourselves, and the Universal love of all.
One of the main benefits of a healthy Third Chakra is a sense of equanimity: being so content and secure within your Self that no matter what arises in your life, you can meet the situation with grace and confidence in your abilities. When the Manipura is balanced, you are centered within your personal power, proud and accepting of being who you are – instead of stressing about what you are not.
The key to understanding the Sacral Chakra is understanding that the energy it houses is all creative, emotional energy. It’s just being channeled in different directions. The force you feel to paint a masterpiece is the same passion expressed in a luscious sexual encounter – it’s all sweetness.
The Root Chakra is considered the foundation of the entire chakra system, supporting the energy centers above it and helping to maintain their balance. It establishes the connection between your physical body and the spiritual Earth. This chakra holds our survival instinct, our need for nourishment, and our sense of safety and security on the physical plane. This energy is our primal nature, our animal instinct to exist and endure.
